The first week of the month was once again made brighter and more creative by participating in 7 Vignettes. September’s guest judge was interior designer Jacinta Preston, and was sponsored by West Elm to celebrate the opening of their Melbourne store. The winner takes home two of West Elm’s Martini Tables (one in silver and one in persimmon) and three runners-up get a silver one.
This month I tried to make my shots more consistent so that they work as a set as well as individually for the theme. I also used a couple of the themes as a great excuse to create some beautiful unconventional type. I started a new internship this week so that took up the majority of my time – that being said, I’m pretty proud of my vignettes this month.
I had so much fun with the glitter type that I did a second piece. It was much easier to work with than I thought it would be, and it’s just so pretty! Next time I’m going to draw the type piece first, and then form the glitter over the top instead of free-forming. While the flexibility of doing it this way was nice, I didn’t achieve the really loopy, naturally hand-written feel that I was going for. Ah well, practice makes perfect – and this is practice that I’m happy to do!
This month’s vignettes were really fun, and I think I enjoyed it so much because I tailored it to suit what I like to do most. I might try to make type pieces of all of my vignettes next month. We’ll have to wait and see what the words are!
I’d also like to mention that my ‘Round’ vignette of the raspberries and the lemon got a ‘like’ from Miss Interiors Addict herself, Jen Bishop. Just a little stoked.
